Adam Equipment's Connecticut Office Opens Today As
Behemoth Storm Wreaks Havoc on Entire East Coast

October 30, 2012 - Danbury, Conn. - The Adam Equipment office in Connecticut is open for business today, following an early closure yesterday due to the storm, now being called Superstorm Sandy. The office suffered no damage or flooding, but employees battled road closures, high winds, downed trees and heavy rains to get to work this morning. On a positive note, a brilliant rainbow was observed near Danbury as one worker drove to the office.

According to meteorologists, the massive storm is moving slowly and will continue to directly affect the United States for at least another day. The death toll is rising by the minute, and many deaths resulted from falling trees. Power outages are rampant and public transportation has been shut down or severely disrupted. States of emergency have been declared in numerous areas and residents are being urged to either remain indoors or exercise extreme caution.

The storm made landfall at 8 p.m. yesterday near Atlantic City, N.J. and wielded winds of 60-70 miles per hour and massive amounts of rainfall for extended periods of time. Winds uprooted trees and severely damaged buildings in many areas, and beaches in Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts have sustained major destruction. Virginia Beach, Va. collected more than 9.5 inches of rain. Cleveland reported 4.5 inches of snow and is now getting heavy rains. Blizzard warnings continue through Wednesday for areas of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. Garrett, Md. saw an amazing 26 inches of snow, with more to come.

Problems continue to plague much of the East Coast. For the first time since 1888, the New York Stock Exchange is closed for the second day due to inclement weather. At least seven subway tunnels are flooded under the East River in New York City and the subway system is closed. Amtrak has suspended service again today along the Northeast Corridor. More than 16,000 flights have been cancelled and most airports in the Northeast are either closed or have extremely limited service. A massive six-alarm fire in the Breezy Point neighborhood in Queens, N.Y. has completely destroyed between 80-100 homes in the gated community.

Media outlets are referring to the storm as epic, historic, unprecedented and calling it "the Katrina of the Northeast," making reference to Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed New Orleans and other Gulf Coast communities in 2005. Initial assessments show that New Jersey and New York City took the brunt of the storm, and experts have issued preliminary damage estimates running into billions of dollars. Please check the Adam Equipment web site and Facebook page for daily updates on our office status.
